  1. If diversity could be a business strategy, would this contribute to an organization`s competitive advantage? If so, how? If not, why not?

Diversityis the different approach, characters or perspectives brought aboutby various individuals. It contributes significantly to the culturalidentity of those people (Wrench, 2007). As a business strategy,diversity would make a substantial contribution to organizationalcompetitiveness. This is because as today’s market become globalclients want to feel represented in an organization they engage intheir business endeavors (Wrench, 2007). Diversity helps anorganization to maintain a competitive edge by providing a diversegroup of people selected, trained and developed in serving clientsbased on fairness and merit.2.What are similarities and differences in ways that different culturesare meeting challenges of opportunities posed by diversity andchange?

Equitylegislation, in this laws, are put in place to protect the minorityand enable them to have an equal share of the opportunities posed bydiversity while regulating them not overstep on the othercultures(Wrench, 2007). Other cultures however prefer voluntary,self-initiated where there is no need for a law of equity, but themembers observe equity by themselves. Many communities also embracediversity by building team spirit. This helps the members to putaside their differences and work together(Wrench, 2007).3.Compare anti-immigration movements in different countries

Anti-immigrationmovements are groups of individuals who are opposed to immigration.One of the reasons is because they argue that immigrants come todrain the public recourses. Other movements are angered by the factthat these immigrants come to compete for the same jobs withcountries citizens (Wrench, 2007). The movements’ argue that theirsovereignty should be protected as citizens of their countries.

InEurope, most of these movements are concerned with the immigration ofMuslim communities in their countries. Since they feel, it is like aMuslim plot to colonize the west. In the US, these movements want theimmigrants to go back home. These anti-immigrant groups considerthemselves as patriots of their countries (Wrench, 2007). Theirprincipal concerns are that these immigrants come to strain theireconomy draining their local resources and affecting their communitydynamics adversely.3.Analyze the historical effect of discrimination on the global economy

Discriminationis the act of valuing a person in terms of their characteristics likereligion, gender that is not related to their productivity (Wrench,2007). Discrimination has adverse effects on the global economy, andit cause collapse of labor markets and unequal wealth distribution.It also leads to lower labor rates and inadequate opportunities foremployment. This leads to poor lively hoods of the discriminated andworsening of their condition since they lack the competitivenessrequired in the global market (Wrench, 2007).of HowCanada promotes .

Inthe US, civil right legislation was to end discrimination against theblacks. This was however not the case in Canada as their populationwas tiny compared to those in the US. Therefore, the Canadiangovernment sought to protect four groups, and these are:1.Women, they were behind their male counterparts in, matters of incomeand high paying jobs.2. Aboriginal People, they consisted ofIndians, Inuit, and Merits. They constitute 3 percent of the Canadianpopulation, but there are regions where they are the majority inCanada. These people had difficulty in entering the economicmainstream.3. People with disabilities,4. Visibleminority, they comprise about 13 percent of the Canadian population.It is the most provocative group protected by the Canadian law.Chinese Canadians are the largest ethnic group protected ion thiscategory. Wealthy Japanese Canadians are also in this class becauseof having a history of discrimination. Another panel in this categoryis the Pacific Islander Canadians these are recent arrivals inCanada with averagely high unemployment rates and very low income.Other minorities were excluded in the Equity Act but protectedelsewhere by the law.

Thegays, lesbians, and French speakers in mainly English speaking areaswere excluded from the group because the law does not discriminatebased on sexual orientation, or the language one learned first beforeEnglish. However, they were not to be discriminated in the workplace.

Amajor glitch in implementing employment equity is that for anemployee to be counted as a member of the visible minority they mustidentify as one in a questionnaire provided by the employer. Somestaff does not wish to comply with this and therefore cannot beincluded in the employment equity statistics. Other groups’ exampleArabs or west Asian decent do not even know they are defined as thevisible minority by the government.

Affirmativeaction, as applied in the US by claiming reverse discrimination,cannot work. This is because the Canadian legal system does not allowa claim of reverse discrimination. In the Canadian constitutioncharter of rights section, 15 states that it is illegal todiscriminate. It also adds that an allowable exception to policiesthat improve the situation of disadvantaged groups in theantidiscrimination clause.
