Thegovernmentas an institutionhas theresponsibilityto safeguard thecommunity.Individualswhoare accountableforthepublicsafetymust understandhowthegovernmentandthelocals can corroborateefficiently to controlandpreventcrimein thesocietyandeventuallyavertsafetychallenges.Indeed,thesafetyof theindividualsandtheir propertiesare fundamentalhumanrights,which are criticaltothequalityof lifeof theindividualsin thecommunity.Hence,communityorientedpolicingis instrumentalin anysocietyin the preventionof crime.

CommunityOriented Policing

COPis a policing strategythat encouragesbuildingtiesamong themembersof thesocietyandthepoliceto promotecommunitypolicing.Policeofficersin thissettingofferpatrolsin a permanentareaof operationwheretheycollaboratewith the publicto solveandidentifysocietal issues,includingcrimesandsocialdisorder.The expected police competencies include vitality, time, evaluation,and training (Whisenand,2011).

Benefitsof Community Oriented Policing

Community-orientedpolicingis importantto bothpoliceofficersandthepoliceagency(Schnebly, 2008).Thecrimein thesocietyis not evenlydistributedratheritis heavilyconcentratedamong fewoffenders in a fewplacesandinvolvingrelativelyfewtargets.Therefore,whencommunitypolicingis adopted,thepoliceandtheagencyinvestin data collectionin their jurisdictionas wellas analysis,which assistthem to identifythehotspots,repeatoffenders andvictims,andtheproductslikelyto be stolenin caseof smugglers.Essentially,thepoliceofficersandtheagencyareabletofocustheir attentionon theplaceitis mostneeded(Schnebly,2008).In addition,thecommunityisabletoshareinformationwith thepoliceandthepoliceagency,a situationthat enhancestheir safety.Communityorientedpolicingallowsa continuouscommunicationbetween thepoliceandthecommunity,thusbuildingtheconfidenceof thecommunity.

Challengesof COP

Inmanycases,communityorientedpolicingis successful.However,in manyinstancesthecommunityorientedpolicingis failingbecauseof lackof properinvestment.Evidently, theprocessis not an eventthat yieldsimmediatesuccess(Innes,2005).Infact,itis a long-lasting venturethat requirespatienceandeffortto strengthenit.Therefore,theentirestakeholder must showcommitmentto a newstrategyandeveryone, includingtheresidentswill respondpositivelyto theinitiative.In essence,theinitiativeis instrumentalin preventingcrime,improvingcommunityrelations,andlesseningthefearof crime,as wellas developingpoliticalsupport.
