Affirmativeactionrefersto theequalemploymentopportunitymeasuresthatemployersare legallyrequiredto adopt.Theyare aimedto preventgender,racial,religious,oranyformof discriminationin workplaces, givingallemployeesequalemploymentopportunitiesbased on merit.Affirmativeaction,which takestheformof outreach campaignsandgovernmentlegislation,has beenwidelycriticizedin within thejobmarket.Opponentsof affirmativeactionarguethatthebusinessworldhas adoptedequalemploymentopportunitiesforall,hencenoneedforaffirmativeaction(LeBeaufet al, 2007). Thispaperdiscussesaffirmativeaction,exemplifyingits importancein themodernsociety,despite increasedargumentsagainst theaction.

Despitethenotableimprovementin thejobmarketin offeringequitableemploymentforall,I believethatthere is a needto supportaffirmativeactionin thejobmarket.Affirmativeactionhas elucidatedemployerson theneedto promotediversityamong employees,which is vitalin promotingbusinessgrowth.Promotingdiversity,thoughequitablepayandpromotions,themanagementsupportsemployee`sconfidence,increasesjobsatisfactionamong workersleadingto employeeloyalty.Trustandloyaltyamongst employeesincreasesthebusiness’global competitiveness(LeBeaufet al, 2007).

Despitemodernity, researchhas shownthatevaluators usingperformanceevaluation andassessmentinstrumentsare sociallyconditionedto discriminateagainst womenandminority.Discriminationis furtherperpetuatedby themediaby themediainto modernworkplaces andtakestheformof institutional racism.Performanceof womenandminoritiesislargelybasedon supervisors’perceptions,ratherthan actualperformancetheyare overlookedforpromotionsandcompensatedlessthan their counterpartson samejoblevels (LeBeauf et al, 2007). Prevalence of discrimination in variousemployment sectors calls for the need of vibrant affirmative action.Lackof genderandracialbaseddiscriminationin some businesses can be attributedto the positive outcome of affirmative action, which has elucidatedemployers on the need to adopt diversity.

Asaforesaid, affirmativeactionis necessaryforpromotingequalemploymentopportunitiesin theAmerican jobmarket.In theU.S., affirmativeactingis entrenchedin theconstitutionunder theNational Labor Relations actof 1935. Successiveregimeshavepassedvariousexecutiveorderssuchas executiveordernumbers8802, 10925, and11246, allto supportaffirmativeactionin theUnited States.
